The 2
images below are of one
of Queensland Rail’s two
sets of electric Tilt
Trains taken at Roma
Street Station,
Brisbane, in November
1998 just before they
went into service. The
Tilt Trains have an
operating speed of
160km/h, but are capable
of 210km/h and are the
record holders for the
highest rail speed in
Australia – and that of
course in 3ft 6in/1067mm
gauge! The Interurban
Multiple Unit (IMU)
No103 seen parked on the
line next to the Tilt
Train has an operating
speed of 140km/h (only
where track conditions
permit of course) and is
part of the fleet that
runs from Brisbane
Airport to the Gold
Coast, 85km south-east
of Brisbane.
