A brief History of Buses in Cape Town 1950 - 1980
CT = City Tramways GA -= Golden Arrow ABS = Associated Bus Holdings
Modalink, an
innovative urban transport demonstration
project, funded largely by the national
Department of Transport (nDoT), was initiated in
Cape Town in 1996. A Section 21 not-for-profit
entity operating under contract to the Cape
Metropolitan Council (Capmet), its mandate was
to promote, coordinate and market public
transport. Following creation of the unicity of
Cape Town, the Metropolitan Council ceased to
exist and in 2004, the city had Modalink closed
down. In addition to highly successful
projects such as a central information centre
and the devising of a corporate house style and
livery, Modalink arranged for the introduction
of several demonstrator vehicles. They were
operated during their time in Cape Town by
Golden Arrow Bus Services, mainly on routes to
the Waterfront and Retreat. All were painted in
Modalink's distinctive blue Capmet livery
