1st Photo: Photographed on 6/10/87
at Cape Town Harbour, waiting to be loaded on a ship for
Durban, en route to Midmar Dam. The wings have been removed,
outboard of the inner engines. The propeller mechanisms have
also been removed as had the entire tailpiece. Photo © Wally Grieg 2nd Photo: Shackleton 1717 at Midmar Dam - Photo © Geoff Pethick More photos of P1717 Below |

A Shackleton was donated to the Stellenbosch Flying Club and was road hauled to Stellenbosch Airfield. Photo taken 16/7/87. I do not know which Shack this was; there were no markings. Possibly this is the Shack which ended her days at the Waterfront. Can anyone confirm this? The port inner engine nacelle is evident and the engine has been removed. A concrete block has been fitted, in place of the engine. This was standard procedure, to prevent the aircraft tilting backwards onto its tailend. Photo/Info Wally Greig |
